Student-led Clubs at CGA

Crimson Global Academy (CGA) is known for having an amazing academic program and great support. Despite being a fully online school, it has many clubs led and organised entirely by students at CGA. Joining these clubs will engage your social skills and will help you upgrade your CVs. 

Here’s a short description of each club. Feel free to contact the leaders or join the clubs on Slack if you are a CGA student, and are interested in joining these clubs.

Art Club

Activities:

  • Being able to contribute and engage in club activities

Piece of Peace (pop-up)

President: Sara Hamaguchi

Activities:

  • Plan and hold an event involving students and teachers at CGA regarding the theme of ‘world peace’
  • Create a slideshow presentation/poster about different cultures to be presented at assemblies

Requirements:

  • Interest in SDGs
  • Passion for world peace
  • Interest in peace

Reading Club

Activities:

  • Meetings every Saturday from 12:00 pm-12:40 pm (UTC), where discussions about a chosen book of the week take place

Requirements:

  • Passion for reading

  • To get a better understanding of a certain book/subject/literature

E-sports Club

Activities:

  • Game nights every Saturday (7 pm AUT/9 pm NZT)
  • Discussions with other members in the discord server 

Requirements:

  • To relieve your stress from school/exams
  • To get the chance to be able to enter their official E-sports team

Ted-Ed Club

President: Elizaveta Frolkova

Activities:

  • Learning theory and practising core public speaking skills
  • Independent work, research and/or scriptwriting
  • Goal: to organise the online TEDxYouth conference

Culture Club

Activities: 

  • Meetings on Friday’s 8 pm NZST/6 pm AEST once every fortnight looking at a new culture
  • Learning and exploring different countries/languages
  • Learning about different cultures

Why would you join?

  • To gain more knowledge about cultures around the world
  • To interact with other students in different countries across the world
  • To teach your culture/traditions to other students

Spanish Conversation Club

President: Alisa Miroliubova

Activities:

  • Interaction with members in Spanish
  • Discussions/debates about social topics in Spanish

Requirements:

  • CEFR level: over B1 in Spanish

Why would you join?

  • To develop your Spanish-speaking skills
  • To relieve your stress/relax by speaking in your comfortable language
  • To interact with other students at CGA
  • To gain a better understanding of social topics such as ecology, pollution, and science

Activities:

  • Sharing your unique lego creations with other students
  • Getting feedback from others to develop your lego building skills
  • Meetings every fortnight

  • To have fun interactions with other lego lovers

Photography Club

Activities:

  • A weekly submission under the theme chosen by the members
    • → each week, a winner will be chosen

Translation Club

Activities:

  • Monthly/weekly theme
  • Translating a member’s choice of a poem, book, song, quote, saying…etc.
  • Sharing and evaluating the choice of words when translating

Requirements:

  • You DO NOT need to be fluent in 2+ languages
  • Interest in translating

  • To develop your skills in translation
  • To share your favourite pieces written in other languages with others

The CGA Press

President: Caitlin Cameron

Activities:

  • Publishing 3 articles a week
  • Announcing important school news
  • Introducing student highlights

Requirements:

  • Comfort with the English language
  • Good time management skills
  • No previous writing/journalism experience is required

Why would you join?

  • To develop your skills in article writing/journalism
  • To develop your skills in editing articles

Activities:

  • Music discussions
  • Songwriting
  • Production and theory lessons
  • Song of the week competitions

Requirements:

  • You DO NOT need any prior music experience
  • Love of music
  • A positive, open-minded attitude

Why would you join?

  • To take a break from school and relax
  • To meet and have discussions with other music artists from around the world
  • To share and promote your original creations with others

Mock Trial Club

President: Vivian Weng

Activities:

  • Weekly meetings: either led by the president/ secretary
    • Focus on learning about the different aspects of mock trial
    • Group activities, games, videos
  • Participate in at least one international mock trial competition

Requirement:

  • No technical requirements 

Why join:

  • To practice your public speaking skills & debate skills
  • To be able to talk/ discuss about international topics
  • To develop an interest and skill to apply knowledge learned in the future

Aoraki Study Club

Activities:

  • Meet up every week on Friday at 6pm (NZST) for 30min
    • Create study timetable
    • Individually study while chatting to peers

  • Open to all subjects and year levels

  • To ask questions and clarify any areas you are unclear of

Debate Club

Activities:

  • Meeting
    • Each session will feature various debate styles covering all aspects of a debate, allowing participants to explore diverse perspectives and enhance their critical thinking skills.

Requirement:

  • Interest in debating
  • People willing to express their opinions, challenge ideas, and foster intellectual growth
