Berries are delicious. Berries are found all over the world. Berries bring us childhood memories where we might have had strawberries and blueberries with yogurt or pancakes. In this article, I will dive deeper into this world and show you things that you have never seen before!
History of berries
When we hear the word “Stone Age”, I would guess that most of us will imagine cavemen picking bright berries with woven baskets, right? Berries was part of our lives from 3 million years ago. Archaeologists have found fossilised berry seeds near an ancient campsite. However, berries are way older than us. They were also thought to be eaten by herbivorous dinosaurs millions of years ago.
Types of interesting berries
Now let’s get lost in the world of strange berries! I’ll introduce 3 of them.

Kiwi berry
These are very interesting as they actually look exactly like Kiwi fruits, apart from the fact that the skin is green and not fuzzy. It tastes similar to kiwi fruits but is as small as a large grape. The Kiwi berry is found in East Asia.

Baobab berry
This berry is humongous! The largest ones can grow up to 45 cm in length and 17 cm in diameter. It is known as the “Tree of Life” in Africa, where it originates, and has a sour, tangy taste. It has lots of nutrients too!

Miracle berry
This berry is… well… a miracle! Originating from West Africa, this berry changes your sense of taste. It turns sour things into sweet things. So if you don’t like lemon but want to try one, you can eat a miracle berry beforehand, and your lemon will taste as sweet as ever!
There are fruits you’d never guess are actually berries. For example, bananas and pumpkins are also considered berries! So the next time you ask your parents, “Can I go and buy berries?” and if the answer is “Yes”, botanically that means you can go and buy bananas and pumpkins too.
Hope you enjoyed a little insight into this fascinating world of berries!
