What Is Reality Shifting?

Reality shifting, a concept which began trending on TikTok in 2020, has recently taken the internet by storm. What way better to escape lockdown than to travel to a whole new reality with brain power alone?

What is reality shifting? Shifting is described as the act of transferring your awareness from one reality to another. It stems from the multiverse theory, which states that there are infinite different universes/realities simultaneously existing, including ours. This means that, theoretically, the reality you shift to is just as real as the one you are in right now. As there are infinite realities, there are infinite possibilities. You can shift to any place imaginable, even those considered ‘fictional’, like the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Harry Potter. I can almost guarantee that the first Google search results you will see for ‘reality shifting’ are about shifting to Hogwarts. This is largely due to the number of girls unhealthily obsessed with Draco Malfoy who originally popularised shifting on TikTok.

So, how do you shift realities? When preparing to shift, many people choose to write a script. A script is a description of your desired reality and can include locations, relationships, appearances, skills, etc. The idea is that your script will become ingrained in your subconscious, meaning that when you shift, every detail in your desired reality will be exactly as you want it. You do not need a script to shift, but it can often assist in shifting faster and shifting to the correct reality. When shifting, there are many methods you can use. These methods are generally categorised as either ‘sleep methods’ or ‘awake methods’, but they can usually be converted. Sleep methods involve falling asleep and waking up in your desired reality – for example: The Raven Method. Awake methods involve staying awake, successfully shifting, and then opening your eyes in your desired reality – for example: The Julia Method. Methods are not required to shift though – simply setting a firm intention can work just as effectively. An example of an intention is “I am shifting tonight.”

Shifting is different from lucid dreaming as it transports your awareness to realities which share the same properties/are in the same dimension or realm as this reality. As lucid dreaming still occurs in a dream, each person there is simply a figment of your subconscious. It is thought that when shifting, the people in your desired reality are as real and feeling as humans are here.

It should be noted that reality shifting is not psychosis, dissociation or maladaptive daydreaming, and many people who experience these and claim to have shifted can confirm that they are very different experiences.

What proof is there for shifting? You may have heard of the declassified CIA documents which explore remote viewing, astral projection, and the power of meditation. Back in the 1970s, the USA believed other countries were increasing their budget on their psychic exploration programs. To avoid falling behind, the USA allocated funding and trained psychics in an attempt to spy on the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The success of the project varied. While some ‘psychics’ were clearly fraudulent, it is believed that others actually uncovered accurate information. If you would like to research this subject further, the project is known collectively as ‘Stargate Project’ and it took place between 1978 and 1995.

What do you think? Is it possible to shift realities? Do we exist in a multiverse? It is impossible to know for sure; we can only make judgements on the information we have right now and our personal experiences.
