The CGA Press, CGA’s official student newspaper, is excited to launch its new Guest Column this September!
The Guest Column provides CGA students with a unique opportunity to gain valuable journalistic writing experience. It is an ideal solution for students who are interested in publishing an article or other piece of writing on the CGA Press website, but who do not have the time to commit to becoming a full time member of our club.
Here is a brief summary of what the Guest Column is, how it works, and what to expect once you have submitted your article.
Who is the Guest Column for? Do you need writing experience?
Any and all student contributions are welcome in the Guest Column, regardless of your previous writing experience! We have a team of editors who will assist you in refining your article and ensuring that it is suited to our audience before it is published. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in finding out more about how we run the CGA Press (even if you don’t have time to become a full time member), or for gaining journalistic and academic writing experience by being published on the CGA Press website.
What type of writing are we looking for?
As of 15 September 2023, the Guest Column is open to any submissions of the following forms:
- Journalistic or Opinion Articles (on various topics);
- Creative Writing Pieces (e.g. short stories, poems, etc.); and
- Interviews.
How does the Guest Column work?
- Write your article, creative writing piece, interview, etc. : Make sure to pick a school-appropriate topic, and to include any sources you have used for research. Read our Guest Column guidelines on appropriate article topics if you would like some further guidance on what to write about.
- Submit your work: Once you have written your article or creative writing piece, please submit it as a Google Doc or PDF using this Google Form. You will also need to agree to an Authenticity Statement to clarify that you have referenced or cited any sources you may have used in researching or producing your submission.
- We’ll be in touch: We will send an email to confirm that we have received your article submission once you have completed the aforementioned Google Form. Our team of editors will then be in touch with you via Slack or email to update you on the editing process, and finally to publish your wonderful work on the CGA Press website!
What should you write about?
You are welcome to write about anything! Our articles cover a wide variety of topics, from school news here at CGA to extracurricular initiatives and topical global issues. You can view our official club policy on appropriate Guest Column topics and article guidelines here, or you can contact our Editor-in-Chief, Caitlin Cameron (caitlin.cameron@student.cga.school) directly for guidance and assistance with any questions you may have.
When will your article be published?
This is subject to the amount of other articles we need to publish during a given period of time. Our dedicated team of editors will work hard to ensure that we have your article published as soon as possible! Guest Column submissions will be published weekly on Fridays, subject to the number of entries received.

The Guest Column is permanently open to submissions, and students are welcome to submit multiple entries!
